MAMA MIA, it’s Not your grandpa’s pizza!
WHAT’S cooking at Patricia Greer’s Kitchen in Midtown? Nothing….absolutely nothing!
Pat Greer has been creating raw food delights in the Houston area for seven years now. Recently, she started making
meals to go that are ready to eat. Throw away your stove and microwave! We’re talking about yummy food that needs no heat. Specialties of the house at the 412 W. Clay location (off Montrose) include Pizza Bella, using a portabella
mushroom as the crust, and a falafel dish with hummus made from zucchini squash. You might ask how you can make a grand pizza (usually made with flour and cheese) that is gluten-free and vegan. That is just one of Pat’s many culinary surprises. Check it out! There are many other dishes and you can get a full meal with entrée, salad and dessert. Being a proponent of using locally grown produce when available, the dishes change with the seasons.
Co-founder of the Central City Co-op, and never one to waste, Pat started making raw meals and dehydrating krackers out of the organic product left over from the markets. The krackers are sold under the brand name “yaya’sRAWRah” at Whole Foods, Spec’s, A Moveable Feast locally, and various locations around the country. The Spicy Flax Krackers won a national award from the Gallo Family Vineyards in the bread and baked goods division. In 2005, this award landed yaya’s krackers as a featured product in the Fancy Food Show in New York, plus a trip to New York to receive the award from 5 top chefs in the US. Devries conducted the competition for the Gallo family.
Pat really walks the walk. She would, of course, like to save the planet singlehandedly, but realistically needs the help of everyone. As talk-show host on KPFT radio station, her show, “Eco-ology” features weekly visits from prominent individuals who are interested in making a difference.
